2013 Winter Immersion Programme

National University of Singapore Research Institute (NUSRI) successfully concluded its 2013 Winter Immersion Programme @ Suzhou on 3rd January 2014. This programme commenced on 8th December 2013, and brought a total of 17 NUS students to China. This programme provided insights into China’s bustling economy and culture through colorful activities, such as industrial visits, cultural visits and a series of classroom and onsite lectures by professors from local universities.

Suzhou is a city rich in history and culture. Our immersion programme participants have thus had an opportunity to appreciate first hand its unique art, like silk and embroidery. one highlight of the programme was the rock painting course. Rock painting is one of the oldest art forms in China. Drawing inspiration from Suzhou’s breathtaking landscapes, students in the rock painting course expressed their creativity in a painting of their own.Strangers at first, the 2013 Winter Immersion Programme was for its participants a month of bonding, and of living together as one big family. Here in Suzhou, the passion for knowledge was rekindled, and new friendships have been forged. For our participants, Christmas in Suzhou was a holiday of warmth and love.

NUSRI pledges to continue to host more immersion programs for international students, to bring the sublime beauty of China closer to the world.
