Advancing biomedical engineering research excellence
Professor Lim Chwee Teck and Professor Li Jun, Chief Principal Investigators of NUSRI Suzhou, have been conferred prestigious awards by the International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering (IFMBE) for their exemplary contributions to medical and biological engineering. The awards were presented on 29 September 2025, during the World Congress on Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering 2025.
Prof Lim Chwee Teck – Otto Schmitt Award
Professor Lim Chwee Teck was presented with the IFMBE Otto Schmitt Award for his pioneering contributions to mechanobiology and microfluidics, and transforming research into clinical and commercial innovations that advance global healthcare. The Otto Schmitt Award honours distinguished biomedical engineers who have advanced the field through innovation, leadership, and impact. Prof Lim previously received the Vladimir K. Zworykin Award from the same Congress in 2015.
Prof Li Jun – Vladimir K. Zworykin Award
Professor Li Jun received the Vladimir K. Zworykin Award for his groundbreaking research on supramolecular self-assembled nanomaterials and hydrogels, which significantly advanced the fields of nanomedicine and sustainable agriculture. The Vladimir K. Zworykin Award is given to a biomedical engineer for outstanding research contributions in the field of medical and biological engineering.
