NUS Science & Technology Global Industry Insights Programme
In June 2025, a delegation of 43 students and faculty members from the Departments of Chemistry and Biological Sciences at the National University of Singapore embarked on a ten-day study tour across China’s Yangtze River Delta region. Themed "Exploring Biology Chemistry, Culture and Commerce in China", the programme featured visits to eight leading enterprises and institutions, two thematic seminars, and explorations of ten cultural landmarks. Together, these activities offered participants a structured and immersive perspective on China’s innovation landscape and cultural heritage.
Industry Exposure
The cohort visited Shanghai Zhangjiang Science City and Suzhou Industrial Park, where they observed operations at leading pharmaceutical companies, including Corning Pharmaceutical, Roche Diagnostics, and Ascentage Pharma. These site visits provided valuable exposure to the practical implementation of emerging technologies, particularly in AI-driven drug discovery and advanced manufacturing. Participants also gained critical insights into technology transfer processes within China’s dynamic and rapidly evolving innovation ecosystem.
Cultural Immersion
The programme also included visits to prominent cultural heritage sites, such as Suzhou’s Humble Administrator’s Garden, Shantang Street, Suzhou Silk Museum, and Hangzhou’s West Lake. These experiences enabled participants to engage more deeply with traditional Chinese aesthetics, design principles, and craftsmanship, enriching their understanding of Jiangnan’s cultural legacy and the region’s ongoing heritage preservation efforts.
Through an integrated programme of industry visits, cultural immersion, and academic engagement, participants acquired practical business insights, cross-cultural competencies, and interdisciplinary knowledge essential for the global workplace. Exposure to diverse industries and real-world business models deepened their understanding of economic opportunities and international market dynamics, thereby laying a strong foundation for future academic and career development.
