The 2nd Sino-Singapore Frontiers Symposium on Water Treatment Technology was Successfully Held


NUSRI Suzhou hosted "The 2nd Sino-Singapore Frontier Water Technology Symposium" on 30 July 2024. The symposium brought together scholars from NUS and leading Chinese universities, as well as experts from prominent enterprises in the field of environment and NUS alumni. The symposium served as a platform to share research progress in the water technology sector. The gathering also fostered discussions on the future of industry-academia-research collaborations in the environmental field. The event highlighted the latest advancements in water treatment technologies, with a particular focus on advanced oxidation processes in industrial wastewater treatment and biochemical technologies for wastewater resource recovery. By facilitating dialogues among universities, research institutes, and businesses, the symposium offered insights and perspectives to fill the gaps between research innovations and practical applications, contributing to the sustainable use of water resources.



Dr Xie Xianning, the Deputy Director of NUSRI Suzhou welcomed all the water professionals to participate in this symposium. Prof Hu Jiangyong, the Deputy Director of NUS Environmental Research Institute and the Director of the Energy and EnvironmentalNanotech Research Platform at NUSRI Suzhou gave the keynote speech and provided the outlook for future development of water technology.


Researchers from NUSRI Suzhou and NUS alumni delivered presentations on various pressing issues in the environmental and energy fields, including the application of advanced oxidation and biochemical technologies in industrial wastewater treatment, pollutant control in urban stormwater runoff, and synthetic biology and electrochemical membrane separation technologies in wastewater resource recovery. The presentations sparked dynamic discussions, with participants sharing insights from their own research and practice. In addition, representatives and technical leaders from participating enterprises shared their experiences and perspectives in agriculture and industrial water and wastewater treatment, sustainable resource recovery, and emerging industry trends. They also engaged in forward-looking discussions regarding the development and application of water treatment technologies and sustainable resource utilisation within the water resource industry.


The symposium was successfully concluded with closing remarks delivered by Prof Ong Say Leong and Prof Hu Jiangyong from NUS. It provided a stage for fostering deeper collaboration between academic institutions and enterprises, offered practical solutions for advancing the dissemination and application of frontier water treatment technologies.
